What about monuments other than listed buildings?

The UK maintains several different types of official monument listings, and to include them all would significantly complicate the preparatory work. Next year we hope to be in a position to consider other monument types such as Scheduled Ancient Monuments, World Heritage Sites, and perhaps such things as historic parks, gardens and landscapes. There are no central lists in the UK for war memorials.

Why are only 'premier' listed buildings included? Why not all of them?

The UK has huge numbers of listed buildings, and in this initial UK competition we want competitors to concentrate on the more important ones. There are 70,000 or so eligible buildings, which should be enough for us to be getting on with. The full lists (including for example Grade II buildings in England) are at least 10 times larger.

What about other countries - the UK Overseas Territories and so on?

We are planning this year's competition on the basis that only buildings in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will be eligible. While we would be more than happy to include Overseas Territories/Crown Dependencies such as the Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, that would be a lot more work and we do not at the moment have sufficient volunteers. If you are interested in including buildings outside the main areas of the UK, and you are able to volunteer to do the significant organizational work, please let us know. Otherwise, we will reconsider having a wider geographical area next year, when can build on the experience of this first competition.

Will competitors be required to use an official upload wizard? What about those who would prefer to upload to Flickr?

For simplicity, we are not planning to provide alternative upload routes this year for competitors via Flickr or elsewhere. Providing Flickr integration would require quite a lot of additional programming and other work which would not be justified in terms of attracting additional competitors. However, we are not excluding this as a possibility if a technically capable volunteer would like to take the task on for next year.
