These are notes from a Skype meeting held between Lodewijk (Effeietsanders), Maarten (Multichill), Elke (Elya), Tomasz (odder), and Barbara on Monday, April 23, 19:00—20:45 (UTC).

Topics discussed

[edit]

Technical issues

[edit]

Monuments database

[edit]
  • Won't we have any problems with the database this year due to its big size?
    • Wiegels (talk · contribs) offered his help, and Maarten should definitely meet him & Elke on the Dutch border some time in a foreseeable future :)
    • Maarten is in Limburg from Friday, May 11 until Wednesday, May 16.
  • We should communicate with the community about what we have and what we need with regards to the database.

Mobile application

[edit]
  • Elke is in touch with Phil from the Foundation about the mobile application. We have two options:
    1. Upload Wizard-based application (will not work on iPhones due to iOS limitations);
    2. Native application (will require more work).
    • Unfortunately, most of the sexy ideas we have for the application will probably not be possible (in time).
  • Elke was discussing another possibility with a potential sponsor (not to be named publicly just as of yet):
    • They have a POI (point-of-interest) application for iPhones and -- in the future -- for Android-based phones, and are interested in developing an application for WLM. There are some legal limitations, but the idea overall sounded good.
    • They can do geo-coding based on addresses;
      • There might be some privacy issues with heritage organisations;
      • This is a very important issue for Wikimedians who tend to be crazy about their data safety.
    • The software will be neither free nor open;
    • Maybe we could present it as an extra service - service in cooperation and therefore independent from WLM;
      • We would need to make sure that a potential contract with the sponsor would clearly mention that user data will not be available to the sponsor for further commercial use.

Communication

[edit]
  • Tomasz is due to start a discussion about our communication campaign -- will write an e-mail to the mailing list.
  • We also discussed the advertising poster for a cultural heritage magazine.
    • Tomasz will send the feedback from the meeting for Susana to take a look;
    • Tomasz will also contact Hay about a tracking URL for a QR Code on the poster.
