These are notes from a Skype meeting held between Lodewijk (Effeietsanders), Maarten (Multichill), Elke (Elya) and Tomasz (odder) on Sunday, 21 February 2012.

Topics discussed

[edit]

Technical issues

[edit]

UploadWizard

[edit]
  • The UploadWizard needs a lot of improvements, with the deadline date somewhere in August 2012;
  • An initial contact (with the Wikimedia Foundation) will be made next week;
    • We need a contact on our side to facilitate and translate the requirements from human to techyspeak (will be taken care of by Elke);
    • There are already some bugs filled last year, available on this page as well as on

Mobile phone application

[edit]
  • Maarten was talking to Phil Chang from the WMF, and provided him with the information (ie. our requirements) for a mobile app.
  • We already have a rijksmonumenten.info website and a Layar layer which make an immediate upload onto Wikimedia Commons possible.
    • Deadline in the timeline set at July 30;
    • We need a facilitator for contacts between the community and the Foundation (AP: Elke, again).

Communication

[edit]
  • Communication plan:
    • Maarten: We used the Foundation's communication machine it a bit, but there is still a lot to be improved (blog posts, PR?).
    • We might be willing to have some contacts to press agencies via WMF;
      • Lodewijk will contact Jay Walsh about that.
    • Involve Moka Pantages (a former employee of the WMF) into the organisation of WLM in the United States (AP Maarten);
  • We need to have draft [international] press releases as a basis for translation and localisation in the participating countries.
    • Tomasz: It's already in the timeline for the end of August, middle of September and beginning of October.
  • Shouldn't we approach the communications commitee for help & advice?
    • They are not a commitee in a very formal sense, merely a small group of people involved with communications, PR and media in the Foundation and the chapters; nevertheless, they are quite proffesional in those areas.

Partners

[edit]
  • How does the situation with local and international partners look like?
    • Maarten has been in touch with our international (for the time being this equals European) partners.
  • A private Google doc has been created with information on possible partners.
  • Elke has been in a pre-alpha contact with a potential sponsor (a publishing company); they want to give us some money, but, on the other hand, they obviously want to be visible.
    • Elke keeps track on it, a brainstorming meeting might be needed.

Participating countries

[edit]
  • What countries need some addditional help?
    • UK, Ireland, Italy, Denmark (?), Finland, Belarus, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Vatican, San Marino;
  • What are the possible countries that might want to participate in this years' WLM? How do we find them?
    • Is there a chapter (or are they creating one)?
    • Did they participate last year? (or tried to?)
    • Did they show any interest?
    • What is the impact? (we want huge countries!)
    • Do they have a mentor country?
    • Is there any GLAM activity going on?
      • Elke: contact Moushira about Africa/countries of the Global South (AP)

Meetings

[edit]
  • Workshops:
    • UK (Lodewijk);
    • Italy (Lodewijk);
    • Ukraine (Tomasz - in touch with Andrij);
    • Belarus (Tomasz - in touch with Paul);
    • Czech Republic (Tomasz - in touch with Aktron);
    • Russia (Tomasz will look into that);
    • USA GLAMcamp (Canada and US);
    • South America?
    • India?
  • Other meetings:
    • Chapter's Meeting (30 March-1 April; Tomasz will not be there);
    • Hackathon (1-3 June; Elke and Tomasz will not be there) - something like last year? will be discussed next week;
    • Wikimania (12-14 July; Elke will not be there).

Budget

[edit]
  • Lodewijk has been maintaining a draft spreadsheet and talking about the budget with the board of WMNL, but wouldn't be able to continue his work on that particular aspect.
    • We will need to have somebody deal with that (action point!)
    • Should it be a staff member?
      • For bookkeeping matters, yes!
      • As a budget owner (with a big picture on the whole thing), rather not - should be dealing with other areas of work.

Action points
