Wiki Loves Folklore is an international photographic competition to enjoy and celebrate the cultural diversity from around the World through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons). Everybody can participate.
In Peru, we are calling on people to dive into their photo archives or visit local sites with connections of Peru culture, folklore or storytelling and upload them to win!
The basic aim of the competition is to collect photos of human cultural diversity to illustrate articles in the worldwide free encyclopedia Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation projects. The photos provided must match the theme, including, but not limited to festivals, material culture, dances, cuisine, clothing or daily life routine emphasizing on folk culture of Peru.

Competition rules
We try to keep the competition clean and simple to participate. There are only a few rules for photos to participate in the contest in Peru. Let's quickly go through them. Every submission should be:
- Self taken and self uploaded;
- Uploaded between February 1 and March 31, 2024;
- All entries must be licensed under a free copyright license or released into the public domain. The recommended license is Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0).
Next to that, there are a few practical rules:
- You should have an activated e-mail address on Wikimedia Commons;
- If the photo gets deleted for any reason, it is automatically disqualified from the competition;
- You are responsible for following the law while taking and uploading the photo.
Ineligibility
- Entries that are already present on Wikimedia Commons are ineligible for submission. Re-uploading of images is not permitted.
- All entries must align with the scope of Wikimedia Commons. Submissions that deviate from this scope will be disqualified, and there is a possibility of deletion without prior notice.
- Images featuring watermarks, timestamps, or image credits on the visual content itself, or any other form of editing associating the image with the uploader, are not considered eligible for the contest.
- Pornographic images and videos are strictly prohibited and will not be accepted as valid entries in the contest.

The Jury
Our jury will process the images through two or three rounds during April. At the end of this process, the jury determines the top-10. If there are any doubts about the implementation of the rules, the jury decides. Our jury will be composed of people with experience in art, photography, history and historical preservation.
Judging criteria
The jury will determine the winners of the international contest taking into the consideration the following criteria (in no particular order):
- Technical quality (sharpness, use of light, perspective etc.);
- Originality;
- Usefulness of the image for Wikipedia.
Images that reach a top ranking of the international finale, will typically at least fulfill the technical criteria of the ‘Featured Image’ process at Wikimedia Commons. But feel free to submit many images, and let the jury be concerned if they are good enough.
