Welcome to the Wikimedia Commons portal for Wiki Loves Folk 2018!
Wiki Loves Folk (WLF) is a public photo competition around folklore, organized by Wikimedia chapters and groups. It was organised for the first time in 2016 by Wikimedia Spain with the aim of put in value the folklore as essential part of the culture of a country or a terrtory, taking as example other Wiki Loves contests. In 2017, Amical Wikimedia and the Valencian Museum of Ethnology, joined the contest. The aim of the contest is to ask the general public to take pictures of traditions or festivals (religious celebrations, carnivals, folklore festivals, food festivals, etc.) and upload them to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. In the case of Spain, the focus is on those festivals cataloged as International Touristic Interest, National Touristic Interest, Regional Touristic Interest and Provincial Touristic Interest. |
Why is my country not participating in 2018?
Wiki Loves Folk´s organization depends on volunteers in each country, so if your country does not participate in 2018, maybe you are interested to help make it happen. Contact your local Wikimedia user group or chapter and encourage them to get involved.
