A project to bring Basque oral knowledge to the Commons | |
Euskal Herriko Ahotsak (Ahotsak.eus (Q53446704)) is a project that records Basque-language oral heritage. It started recording voices on 2004 and since then it has recorded more than 70.000 videos with 5.900 people in 356 town and villages, covering nearly 6.000 topics [1]. All this videos are published under a cc-by-sa license, so they ar fully compatible with Commons. The Basque Wikimedians User Group has been working with them to bring part of this knowledge to Wikimedia, importing videos to the Commons and using them on Wikipedia to enrich articles. Members |
2018: Basque language variants[edit]Standard Basque (Basque: euskara batua or simply batua) is a standardised version of the Basque language, developed by the Basque Language Academy in the late 1960s, which nowadays is the most widely and commonly spoken Basque-language version throughout the Basque Country. Neverthless, Basque language is very rich in variants, some of them varying from town to town. Many people remain attached to the natural dialects to a higher degree, especially in informal situations; i.e. Basque traditional dialects are still used in the situations where they always were used. This purpose of the project was to upload this variants, and enrich the articles of about 300 Basque-speaking towns with the sonority of the language. While most of the people recorded are elderly speakers, the project was focused on their speech, rather than on what they were talking about. Some examples:
