  • Metrics for UNESCO images: shows Wikipedia articles where media files (images,audio,video) from UNESCO appears and the page views for those pages.
  • Metrics for UNESCO text: shows Wikipedia articles where text from UNESCO appears and the page views for those pages.
  • Pageviews tool: View the number of time Wikipedia artices are read in a time period.

Uploading publications to Wikimedia Commons

For text from publications and images to be used on Wikipedia they first need to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.

Upload

  1. Click here to go to the main page
  2. Click Upload
  3. Select Media Files to Share
  4. Chose the file
  5. When the file has uploaded click Continue

Release rights

  2. Source: [URL Name of publication]
  3. Author: [http://www.unesco.org UNESCO]
  4. Click Another reason not mentioned above and paste {{Cc-by-sa-3.0-igo}} {{subst:OP}} into the box
  5. Click Next

This is the part of the ?? where you describe the images

  1. Image title: user the full name of the publication
  2. Caption: a publication on SUBJECT, published by UNESCO
  3. Description: DESCRIPTION_OF_THE_PUBLICATION
  4. Date work was created or first published: DATE_OF_PUBLICATION
  5. Categories: UNESCO publications
  6. Click Publish files

Uploading graphics to Wikimedia Commons

For text from publications and images to be used on Wikipedia , first they need to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.

Tips

  • Upload graphics in one language at a time e.g all graphics from an English language publication
  • Upload files from one publication per upload
  • Upload 50 files at a time, if you would like to upload 100s of files John Cummings can help you do this another way.

  4. Chose the file/s (up to 50 images and from the same publication at a time)
  5. When the file has uploaded click Continue

Using UNESCO text on Wikipedia

Please use these instructions to add text to Wikipedia articles, ensuring you use the template, otherwise the text you add may get deleted and it cannot be tracked using the metrics tool.

Attribution

This page describes the process of adding open license text to Wikipedia. Please fill in the fields like this:

  • DocumentURL = The URL for the publication on the UNESCO website
  • License statement URL = The URL for the publication on the UNESCO website, unless the license is not listed in the publication, then use the URL where the license is listed

Currently you can only add open license text to English and Spanish Wikipedia.

Referencing

When you use text from a publication please also reference it, use the URL of the publication on the UNESCO website as the reference.

Writing tips

  • Recommendations: if publication makes a recommendation e.g "We recommend..." please rewrite it to say "UNESCO recommends...". It would be helpful if the reason behind the recommendation was given if possible e.g "UNESCO recommends ... because ... ".
