Hospital Velho (Funchal)
Used in Global usage
Reason Pretty much the only image I'm aware of of this notable medieval building of Funchal, the old Hospital da Misericórdia, demolished sometime in the 19th century (nobody seems to know precisely when). Got the original from the net, and did some clean-up on the sky and improved overall contrast. Not used yet, but will certainly be in the future on the article of the building. Also important for the history of Funchal and Manueline Architecture (Portuguese trend of Gothic). -- Darwin Ahoy!

  •  Support Very useful; All criteria are met and the geocoding can be given. --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 07:25, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Unfortunately I can't geocode this building, since there is no information about where it was precisely located, apart from the logic conclusion that it was somewhere in the street that now bears its name, Rua do Hospital Velho. When it was demolished it has not been an hospital since the late 17th century, and apparently few cared about it, apart from the man who salvaged the windows. Even those windows used to be a mistery, and only recently were connected with this building where they came from, since they were found merely stored in a warehouse without any information at all about their provenance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DarwIn (talk • contribs)
  • Hi all! I suddenly remembered that recently a detailed 1567 map of Funchal (see right) was found in Rio de Janeiro, resolving a lot of pending issues, among them the location of Hospital Velho. I changed the file accordingly, geolocating the object as precise as I could, overlapping it with the satellite view in Google Maps.-- Darwin Ahoy! 21:25, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
