Consensual review

[edit]

File:Q_train_approaching_through_heavy_heat_distortion.jpg

[edit]

  • Nomination A New York City subway Q train approaching a station, visually distorted by heat distortion. Construction workers work on the opposite track. The distortion gives the scene an almost painted look. --Explodingcreepsr 19:16, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
  • Decline
  •  Oppose This seems to me to be not just heat-induced distortion but excessive processing of the photo. --Superbass 19:40, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
  • The photo was not post-procceced in any way. The photo was taken through a high-zoom lens on a hot day. The zoom amplifies the distortion, which is a known effect. --Explodingcreepsr 20:18, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
  •  Oppose Regardless, I think it's too unsharp for a QI, but please change the status to "Discuss" if you'd like to move this to Consensual Review. You should also identify the station. -- Ikan Kekek 06:25, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
  • I think the heat distortion creates a cool effect. Not every good photo needs to be a sharp image, and I think the distortion effect gives the image artistic merit. I believe the station is Avenue H. --Explodingcreepsr 22:09, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
  •  Comment I definitely am OK with tolerating a degree of heat distortion, but not this much. We'll see what others think. -- Ikan Kekek 03:52, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
  •  Oppose Heavy posterization. Imo not fixable. --Smial 11:42, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
  •  Oppose Sorry, I really love this physics effect, but the composition only works if there's a sharpness contrast to demonstrate it - which is sadly absent here. Something sharp in the foreground (and ideally also the background) would have made this photo work. Thanks. Mike Peel 23:23, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
  • I do have other photos of this train and station, some of which do have a sharper foreground, but I do not like those photos as much, and I do not think the framing is as good. I may upload them anyway and I'll let you know if I decide to so you can see if you like those photos more. Explodingcreepsr 06:17, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
