Museum Daerah Deli Serdang or Museum of Deli Serdang is a historical and cultural museum located in the location of a government office complex, Tanjung Garbus I Village, Lubuk Pakam, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra.
History
The museum was founded in 2001, but its inauguration was carried out on August 12, 2003.
In 2016 the Deli Serdang Regency Government built a new museum after receiving assistance from the Ministry of Education and Culture's Assistance Task for Museum Development through the Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museum Preservation, Directorate General of Culture. The new museum was built on the land of the former Deli Serdang Regency Agricultural Service.
The new museum was inaugurated on September 8, 2018 by the Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Muhadjir Effendy together with the Governor of North Sumatra (North Sumatra) Edy Rahmayadi in Lubuk Pakam.
Building and collections
The museum occupies a building with the concept of "Itik Pulang Petang" which is taken from the philosophy of the Malay community. The ornament of "Itik Pulang Petang" means obedience and symbolizes kindness, where the elements are orderly, neat and harmonious are reflected in the shape.
The building has 3 floors:
- 1st floor: Visitors will be presented with information about pre-historical times, starting from the history of Deli Serdang, the history of the Deli Malay Sultanate and Serdang. This museum also presents stories of struggles and wars that have occurred in Deli Serdang. On the first floor to the second floor, you will find a story about a green princess.
- 2nd floor: Visitors can see the Serdang Sultanate collection, in the form of clothing, musical instruments, household items and inscriptions at that time.
- 3rd floor: Displaying post-independence collections.
