In the spirit of community development and capacity building, the Igbo wikimedia commons Hub held her monthly meet up for the month of may 2023 on the 19th of may. It is a norms for the Hub to meet every month to train both new editors and existing editors about Wikimedia Commons and how to make navigate and make quality contribution to Wikimedia commons.

About the meeting

The theme of the meet up for the month of May was Introduction to Wikimedia commons. The session was moderated by Stephanie Ojogbue and the training was done by Ogali Hilary. The session was focused on what Wikimedia commons is, what category is and how to use category, and also license on Wikimedia commons was discussed.

Commons

Hilary explained Wikimedia Commons to the participants as a media repository of free-to-use images, sounds, videos and other media. It is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation, the aim of Wikimedia commons and the kind of files to upload on Wikimedia commons.

He further explained the aim of Wikimedia commons as providing a media file repository that makes available public domain and freely-licensed educational media content to all, and acts as a common repository for the various projects of the Wikimedia Foundation.


Wilson helped to delve into category on commons and the important of commons category. He explained category using the illustration of how we arrange our cloths at home, having shirts, trousers and socks in different places for easy access.

The session was held on google meet on Friday 19th of May 2023 by 5ː00PM WAT.
