Example of what I'm talking about - JM

This is not particularly about cleaning up this particular image (although that would be fine). This is a more of a question about whether anyone has a technique for cleaning up an image that is distorted like this, from a combination of paper curl, taking an image at a funny angle, barrel distortion, the exigencies of having transformed the image to get it anything approaching straight, etc. Is there a tool for this? I could easily imagine laying a Bezier grid over the photo and basically telling a tool "OK, these should become the evenly spaced straight lines". The funny thing is, I built most of what's needed for a tool like that for a fluid dynamics application 20 years ago, but it was proprietary for the company I built it for. Article: Brown recluse spider

Request: Any way to bring out the spider in both of these pictures by color curves, brightness and contrast? These are great pictures I took myself in high res. I just dont know how to make them look good. Request: -- I would like an scalable SVG version of this image to be created. The universal edit button is potentially a big deal for Wikis and collaborative creation of all kinds, and yet there wasn't an article on the topic til yesterday. Please poke me on en:User talk:Fish and karate if this can or can not be done. Request: I would like the item on the bottom left hand of the image cropped out. I think cropping from the bottom would have the least impact on the overall image. Can someone crop this for me? Request: This image is assembled from distorted (or unequally distorted) boundaries, which makes a poor comparison; a remake would be good. -- Reisio (talk) 07:09, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Can you explain what the issue is here? This image is based on the standard SVG map of North America, used in lots of places. No boundaries were distorted beyond whatever the map projection does, and since the purpose of this image is to compare areas it does not matter that the outer Aleutians are not shown. It is unfortunate that the source map does not state what projection was used; if it's not an area-preserving projection, it's not very far off from one.
