- Support Very good map, nice clean design. Would rather the SVG be nominated—I assume the reason is poor text display—convert to paths!—Kelvinsong (talk) 23:41, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- Support excellent work. Very good --Rjcastillo (talk) 01:53, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- Question Spanish ? --Rjcastillo (talk) 01:53, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- Info Yes, I am planning to do a Spanish version. I just don't have much time at the moment. And—even worse—I do not speak Spanish at all. So any translations you (or anybody else) could provide are welcome. Just use my discussion page in the German wikipedia. The same goes for any translation mistakes in the existing maps. -- Thoroe (talk) 10:23, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
OpposeIMO we should be voting on the SVGs - we should feature our best content, and we know that SVG is superior. Also, these PNGs aren't even much over 2MPx.--99of9 (talk) 05:02, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- Now that the PNG resolution has been boosted, I'll strike my oppose. --99of9 (talk) 12:11, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose per 99of9. Others (PNGs) may good candidates for local Wikis. JKadavoor Jee 05:12, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- Info @99of9, Jkadavoor: I nominated the PNG versions with intent. Compare them to the SVG file which is rendered poorly by Mediawiki. --тнояsтеn ⇔ 06:27, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- Comment It's possible to improve the SVG to get your expected rendering, but I understand not wanting to convert text to paths. Then at least can you export to high-resolution pngs? --99of9 (talk) 06:45, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

- Comment Hi, I am the creator of the map(s). As to the SVG/PNG question: Just like a photographer I want my works to have the best quality possible. Currently, the SVG renders do not look as good as I want them to, especially when it comes to text. I could convert text objects to paths of course, but I think that would be counterproductive—text objects are (and should be) an integral part of SVG, and if they do not work properly, the SVG renderer needs improvement.
- The SVG version of the vatican map has been created in a hurry yesterday, when I was told about this featured picture nomination. It is intended as a working file for future use or translations. Unfortunately my Illustrator version does not produce useful SVG files, so I had to edit the code by hand and use Inkscape. This is not meant to be an excuse, but an explanation why obviously something went wrong with the extraterritorial pattern.
- If you regard the PNG format as not suitable for a featured map, I will respect and accept your opinion. For me, the quality of a map (or other graphics) is not primarily defined by its file format.
- As to the resolution: I have just uploaded larger renders. Large enough?
- And thank you to everyone who voted Pro. :-)
- Comment Try using an invisible text layer. Group all the text, and duplicate it. Add a rectangle outside the page border. Select a copy of the text, set its opacity to 0, and group it with the rectangle (it serves as a handle so youcan select it again). Then convert the other text group to paths. Perfect typography, and text data saved.—Kelvinsong (talk) 11:02, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
