Hong Kong at night B&W
That's because Poco a poco is better photographer, and he had a better camera too. I think it's not a good idea to compare photographs or other nominations, is like comparing a painting Picazzo with another painting by Leonardo. Besides being a clear lack of respect.--The Photographer (talk) 22:43, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry if you see it as a lack of respect. That is not the intention. 2/3 of the FPs I was comparing with was with you as a creator. So you are a better photographer, than the nomination . I do agree with your point of comparing with just a single superior photo of excellent quality, but when there are several FPs of basically the same subject to compare with, I find it justified to refer to a reference level for FPs of that subject. With deepest respectful regards, -- Slaunger (talk) 22:47, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I understood, I was not upset, but be carefull, you know very well that many here are very delicate, remember that art makes us sentient beings. On the other hand, if you get a prominent photo of this same view (actually no featured photos same view) will retire this photo. --The Photographer (talk) 22:51, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The Photographer, I disagree with your view that FP and candidates should not be compared. We are determining "the finest on Commons", so comparison with similar images (both in subject and type of image) is essential. If we forget that, then FP just becomes a popularity contest. So opposing because an image is not "among the finest on Commons", and giving examples, is a completely valid oppose, and maintains the standards. There is a limit to how much we should bend to the "delicate" natures of our photographers -- I've always said that anyone wanting uncritical praise should show their photos to their mum; otherwise, one needs to accept rejection and learn from it. And the quality issues here are nothing to do with your camera. -- Colin (talk) 08:14, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you, however, this rule should not be exaggerated. No other FP of that view (photo I'm nominating). However, there are other Featured Pictures of Hong Kong of the exactly another same view. --The Photographer (talk) 08:34, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Comment What about that ? --The Photographer (talk) 22:46, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was not there, for a voting. But old B&W images are OK for me. --Alchemist-hp (talk) 22:53, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And that about this, and this, and this, and this, and.... long list. To think that these images should not be highlighted because they are not color, is to ignore the technique realse by white and black. I invite you to see this interesting post --The Photographer (talk) 23:07, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Alchemist-hp this is getting disruptive. Either get the rules changed so contemporary b&w photos are disallowed, or abstain. I shall post on talk as to how the community should deal with this, but I'm minded that future prejudiced votes like this should be removed. -- Colin (talk) 08:14, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree that this is not a valid reason for opposition. I am not commenting on the quality of this picture. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:15, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Colin on this point. This picture might not be FP for quality reasons, but opposing only because it is B&W is not OK. Regards, Yann (talk) 20:52, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please read my oppose right! I "only" asked: "why B&W", "the world is colorful.". I still waiting for a valid answer! --Alchemist-hp (talk) 21:10, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose I'm not opposed to B&W images at FPC at all, but I don't think B&W was the right choice here. --El Grafo (talk) 12:03, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I withdraw my nomination I feel somewhat discouraged by this type of vote The Photographer (talk) 13:41, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
