Replace "PD-self/ca" on "PD-self" on image description pages
Need replace license tag {{PD-self/ca}} on {{PD-self}} in all page, where {{PD-self/ca}} used directly. See all images in Category:Translated license tags. --Kaganer 12:24, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but I do not see a way for doing this without running through the complete namespace "Image" for all images with {{PD-self}}, as there is a link to {{PD-self/ca}} in there, and I will not run through many, many pages. Denied? Siebrand 15:19, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

to generate a listand then go through them. I would be willing to do this, as this is a one off do I need to create a bot only account and apply it for bot status or just do it with my account without status. Lcarsdata 22:36, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

It would be easy enough to directly query the DB to make a list of pages which transclude that template. I can do this if there is no objection. --Gmaxwell 22:38, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- It would appear there are no longer any transclusions of that template. According to AWB and a brief scan of the first 5,000 also reveals none. Lcarsdata 22:50, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

I've found that {{IT}} is deprecated, but still used. It could be useful to use a bot to change it to {{It}}, that is the "standard" language template. (And then make a redirect from IT to It, maybe). Thanks in advance. --Gatto Nero 23:25, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
- The problem isn't simply replacing one template by another as-is — a redirect would solve that. The problem is that the newer language templates are designed to include the text as an argument, rather than just using the template as a label preceding some text. This allows one to use custom CSS to control the display of different languages (see Commons:Multilinguality). People have written multilingual descriptions in so many different, idiosyncratic ways that it's difficult to create a bot script to safely replace the templates in every case. I've done it for several thousand pages so far, but as you've seen there are many more that still need to be addressed. --Davepape 04:21, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Patroling Special:Unusedimages
Will be great if bot will assist this task.
Images without description and with single history (to avoid falsely marking vandalized images) entry should be marked with {{subst:nld}} and uploader notified with {{subst:Image source|Image:<ImageName>}}.
I don't know how hard to implement this algorithm but this will help to avoid many typing :-)
EugeneZelenko 14:52, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- Not sure if that's a great idea. That Special page is quite out of date and not updated very often. If the bot could use Duesentrieb's various tools, though, that could be quite useful. pfctdayelise (translate?) 16:21, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- On my experience (I visit this page at least 5 times per week), it always updated. Since my proposal cover simple case (images uploaded without descriptions and never edited after that), more complicated tools will not help too much. --EugeneZelenko 04:26, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Flickr.com images again
This could be improvement to User:FlickrLickr or separate bot.
It will check licenses and upload files from http://flickr.com listed on Commons page. Commons page should contain destination file name and description (including categories), except Template:flickr info. Additional rotation commands will be plus.
Improvements over current User:FlickrLickr: individual images could be uploaded, users could look into topics interesting for them, simpler interface. EugeneZelenko 14:51, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- I welcome improvements to FlickrLickr, and if you're willing to work on it, let me know and I'll send you the code (it's very messy, though). I'm not sure it's a good idea to let people work on particular topics, as that leaves you with a lot of pictures nobody wants to see, when our goal is to review as many pictures as possible.--Eloquence 16:14, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, unfortunately I'm not specialist in bots. This is reason why I asked to for help on this page.
- Illustration to my problem: I reviewed images for potato tag and selected 8 images (from 1000) which could be useful as illustration. I just want to avoid downloading from flickr.com and reuploading on Commons stage and creating info in Template:flickr form.
- Many users upload images from flickr.com here, so bot automating process (and checking licenses - sometimes people don't pay attention to NC/ND) will be good idea.
- EugeneZelenko 14:31, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- Possibly. On the other hand, there's a huge amount of old material that still needs to be reviewed. So please help me to get more reviewers for FlickrLickr - we've already uploaded 5,500 pics and alwyas need new volunteers! :-) --Eloquence 06:10, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Checking wikipedia interlanguage links
Maybe this has been brought up before, but on this revision of the ampersand page, there was one interlanguage link, to the English wikipedia. At the wikipedia article, there are interlanguage links to 15 other languages. On wikipedia, I sometimes see bots adding interlanguage links, so it seems that the list of languages for any given wikipedia article is updated automatically. Can someone have a bot check for this on the commons? The bot could go through each commons article, follow one of the interlanguage links if there is one, and then check for interlanguage links on that wikipedia article, to see if the commons page is missing any of them. Philbert2.71828 18:31, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- I have tried experimenting with the pywikipediabot however it is having trouble picking up the links (probably because it is not just a different language it is a different family and laguage). It will probably need some work to get it going. Lcarsdata (Talk) 19:17, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
There are quite a few pictures from the collection which aren't categorized. The pictures can be found through Orphan Images ([1]) if you search for User 'Frederic'. We are talking about 450+ orphans here. It would be great if those pictures could be categorized automatically.. --Werckmeister 07:01, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- What exactly are you asking of bot operators? I am against automatically categorising as that will most probably assign categories that are very high level. I'm afraid you'll have to annotate what you have added in the past. It is part of the value you add. Siebrand 17:05, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Automatically making links right
When uploading images of plants I found that often links has been made not right. For example on page http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Magnolia you see that almost all subjects fall under the letter M. Only for 'Magnolia stellata' and 'Magnolia zenii' the links on those pages are made as [[Category:Magnolia|stellata]] instead of only [[Category:Magnolia]]. In some case I have changed manually many links, but I would like that that can be done automatically. Is that possible? --Wouterhagens 18:37, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- There is no built-in automatic way to do that. Try posting a request at commons:bots and a bot writer may do it if they think it is not too hard. I think it could be useful. --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 14:24, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Personal corrections after renamed account
Hi. I had my account renamed yesterday so I'd like (if it's possible) some bot help for that:

- Delete every mention "(aka Jraf)" or "(akas Jraf)"
Thank you. --TwoWings * Wanna talk? ;-) 07:50, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry this is a waste of resources. If you were going to have a problem with your name being changed you shouldn't have done it. :: maelgwn :: talk 13:02, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- OK I understand the problem of "waste of resources" but the second part of your reply is useless and gratuitous... My name being renamed isn't a problem at all. It's just that I wanted 1) to avoid too many redirects (first part of my request), 2) to avoid mentions of my old name. Moreover, I'm quite disappointed because I first asked the consequences of being renamed and I was told I could ask such a thing to a bot (so you might easily understand that contradiction is quite irritating!). Anyway, I don't expect any change in your reply but I just want to ask at least something (that won't imply as many resources as my total request): replacing {{User:Jraf/Note}} by {{User:TwoWings/Note}}. That concerns "only" 230 pages (even less because I already changed a few of them), which is quite "nothing" compare to the many pages I wanted to be corrected in my first request! And if you're nice enough, you could do the seconde part of my request since it implies the same pages... Thanks for your comprehension. --TwoWings * Wanna talk? ;-) 15:48, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
