Discussion

Please explain in detail which batch uploads are planned. --Schlurcher (talk) 05:16, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Uploads of insects and other arthropods, "own work" and CC or public domain photos by others. If this works out well, I may add some birds and other animals that don't have a lot of photos on Commons. Xpda (talk) 09:51, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As I understand you want to upload from various sources. These kind of uploads are better performed on main accounts (thus that the uploads get reviewed). Also general categorization should be performed on main accounts. --Schlurcher (talk) 22:33, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Is it OK to upload a large number (500 to 5000) of photos using a bot on a main account? Xpda (talk) 23:55, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This depends. Here is how I understand the current practice:
  1. In case the uploads are structurally almost identical (like batch uploads by ID from a specific site): Please make a bot request, show some examples and then perform the remaining uploads under the bot flag (as there is no need to review them)
  2. In case there is a high variability in the uploads/sources: Please upload under a main account with no bot flag to ensure better review. Commons is not so much concerned about flooding the recent changes. There are better tools, like focusing on uploads from new users.

Thank you -- that is much more clear to me now. I probably won't be ready to upload a large number from a single source for a few months, so I will use the main account without the bot flag for now. I'll withdraw this request and resubmit it when I am ready with some examples as in case 1. I have just completed 42 minor edits using the bot account and flag as examples for this request, but I'll use the main account for that in the future.
I don't see where I can withdraw this request. Is that something I should do? Xpda (talk) 20:32, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The closing bureaucrat will take care of withdrawn requests. We may want to keep this open a couple of more days in case other want to contribute to this discussion. --Schlurcher (talk) 20:45, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Withdrawn. --Krd 20:01, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
