  • Please make a test run. Also do you check source for files? I saw relatively often NASA (or other USA government) files without source. Other issues: images from other space agencies (for example, Soviet Union) hosted on NASA servers, but not PD. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:53, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    I don't really understand what you mean by "check source for files". All of the images are already uploaded to the English Wikipedia though, and the bot will only move them if they include proper licensing (as PD-NASA images), so the concern about Soviet images used by NASA shouldn't be an issue. I need approval on en.wikipedia prior to performing a test run, though.

    OK, yea, I get that... sorta. This is a big part of the reason that I originally wasn't going to have the bot do fully auto transfers. Based on what you said at w:Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Ohms Law Bot 2 though... I don't know, I guess that if the original uploader marks the image as PD-NASA, and it's been on the site for more then a little bit of time (7 days?, which is able to be checked if needed, although downloading the metadata does take a little bandwidth), then there's a certain minimal level of trust available there.

I think will be good idea to find source for images like File:ALOTS-AP11-ins.jpg before transfer.
Files like File:4486 mithra.jpg looks questionable. I don't think that it's good idea to transfer such files automatically.
Is it possible to add {{Information}} before transfer?

Once you point it out, I can see what the concern is with File:4486 mithra.jpg. The question is, how is a bot supposed to know that there could be a problem, there? That image is just as questionable on Wikipedia as it is here, and from what I've seen these sorts of issues are actually better addressed here anyway, so... my question is, why is this my issue, since I'm only moving the image, not acting as the original uploader. I mean, I'd love to be able to catch these sorts of problems, but I don't see any possible method to do so. Does that make sense?
As for File:ALOTS-AP11-ins.jpg, the source is there. It's not formatted to be all pretty, but there is source information.
I could add {{Information}}, but it will require a ton of extra processing. I don't really see the utility in expending cycles on that when the pages need to be reviewed anyway, and the reviewer(s) could add the template. If it's a requirement though I could add it... eventually. (alternatively, I'll gladly go back to plan A, which was to simply tag the pages on Wikipedia with a Move to Commons template...)

What if the bot checked for a lack of external links? It wouldn't solve everything, but it might reduce the number of files without sources. –Juliancolton | Talk 20:50, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
