Discussion
  • ✓ 40 edits were finished (20 files, 20 categories). See my contribution from Kanzat account (not KanzatBot). I also updated images and links in Wikidata entities. @Krd: --Kanzat (talk) 10:54, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • There were some issues with defaultsort in categories, so I modified my code to not use defaultsort from Wikidata Infobox. Some categories will be without defaultsort - I log such cases and will set correct values manually using Kanzat account later. --Kanzat (talk) 10:59, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please use language tag for source field. It'll be good idea to use Wikidata-based template for author field. How many photos are available for each politician? I don't think it's reasonable to create category for single file. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:25, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@EugeneZelenko: I don't know what is a language tag and what are Wikidata-based templates for author field. Could you please modify one file and show a diff to know what is required? --Kanzat (talk) 16:36, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There are ~4300 photos for ~2700 politicians. They were/are politicians in parliament of Ukraine, so we can assume there can be a lot of photos of them. All of them have articles in Ukrainian wiki, many in Russian wiki, some in Polish, English etc.. Also, according to Commons:Category scheme People (that is refereced from Commons:Categories#People): "For notable people, it's generally worth creating a specific category, such as Category:Albert Einstein. "Notable people" are usually those with many images depicting them at Commons or with a Wikipedia article about them (in any language). --Kanzat (talk) 16:36, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
See description field in already uploaded files. I doubt that majority of electorate would remember their politicians after several years, so their notability is exaggerated, so generic categories like Members of Ukrainian parliament would be enough for them. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 17:43, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree regarding categories. There are already more than 800 categories for Ukrainian MPs, there'll be an inconsistency if we don't create for others, you can see how Category:Members of the Verkhovna Rada is currently structured. Also, when I was reviewing existing pictures, I saw that they often belong to very generic categories like "Men of Ukraine" or "Politicians of Ukraine". Your opinion about "what electorate would remember" - that's not how notability is measured, so it can't be discussed. Notability is measured using the rule quoted above - and they all 100% fall under that rule. --Kanzat (talk) 19:19, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And many such existing categories contain single file - still don't see a good reason. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:46, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
