Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought: Uploading images in cooperation with Wikimedia Norge's GLAM partners.

Automatic or manually assisted: Automatic, but supervised – it will only run when I am online and available.

Edit type (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Intermittently when our partners have available material.

Maximum edit rate (e.g. edits per minute): AndreCostaWMSE-bot, which runs on the same framework, seems to make one edit every ~2 minutes when it is active, so something close to that.

Bot flag requested: (Y/N): Y

Programming language(s): Python; using the Pywikibot-based Wikimedia-Commons-uploads framework from Nordic Museum.

Discussion

Alright, I have finally got to working on this again. I have got the script working, and am ready to do a test run – however, the script needs the upload_by_url right to work, which it doesn't currently have. Is it possible then to request that the bot temporarily be put in the extended uploaders group in order to perform the test upload? @Krd and EugeneZelenko: Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 13:14, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bot account has extended uploader rights now. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:52, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you EugeneZelenko! I have performed the test upload now, and it seems to be working quite well. There are a few smaller quirks to work out (for example, the "Source/photographer" field lists the artist as the photographer, while it should be the person who actually photographed it), but all in all it seems to work as it should. I see a lot of red links in the files. Are you going to fix that? --Krd 14:58, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Krd: Yup, almost done now (but have to take a break at the moment). Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 15:14, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please use language tag for Inscriptions field. Do you also has project for further categorization? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:59, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@EugeneZelenko: Good point, thanks. Will fix that in the script. And yes @ categorization. Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 15:14, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@EugeneZelenko: I'm wondering what you think regarding categorization. Currently, the categories added are very generic categories (like the type of ship) based on the tags in the database we're uploading from. Should those be added to start with, and then refined after upload, or is it better not to add those at all? You can see the current mapping of keywords to categories here. Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 14:26, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, categories may meed refinement. If ships were notable enough, probably ship-specific categories exist. If not, will be good idea to use ship type by country category. Actually categorization was reason why I asked you about project: are there enough people to deal with categorization if account has bot status or will be better if other users will see upload in recent changes. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:02, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If there are no objections, I think bot status should be granted. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:05, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. --Krd 06:05, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
