Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought: As requested at Wikipedia:Bot_requests#Looking_for_a_Commons_bot_operator, for each file in eight categories owned by User:Nyttend, the bot will extract the Infobox "date=" parameter. If the date looks like YYYY-MM-DD, it is replaced with {{Taken on|YYYY-MM-DD}}. If the date doesn't look like that or isn't found, no edit is made and the page is logged. This affects about 12000 files.
I ran a successful test on the first 40 entries in Category:Aerial_pictures_by_User:Nyttend and the error cases File:Rev._Robert_Park.jpg and File:Blocking_an_IP_address_in_en.wp.png.

Discussion
- Looks OK for me. Actually will be good idea to perform on other images, but checking EXIF is reasonable. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:05, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- Checking the metadata is a good idea. I can use that to fill in if there is nothing in the date param at all. After this task, I could run the bot more globally (on any image with camera metadata, perhaps?) if that seems like a good idea. 64.147.4.194 18:01, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- If it were used on other people's uploads, what would the bot do with images that don't have YYYY-MM-DD images? When the bot goes through my edits, I'll check the logs and fix any problems, but who will fix problems on others? I suppose, however, that the bot could simply add a tracking category, e.g. Category:Images without machine-readable dates, and humans could always handle those images later if they felt like it. PS, in case anyone wonders about me asking at en:wp for a bot here — I made a request here, but it got archived because nobody responded to it. Nyttend (talk) 21:34, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- The category is a good idea, I think, since such categories already exist for other infobox params. Anyway, I think should we treat only the original task right now and open a new request for a possible wider operation. BMacZero (talk) 07:16, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
- Okay; I wasn't at all sure about the category idea, and yes, you're right about leaving the other people's uploads until after my uploads are done. I have more questions about working with others' uploads; see your talk page about that. Nyttend (talk) 12:41, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

If there are no objections, I think bot status should be granted. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:26, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
