U.S. Marines Corps

http://www.marines.mil/news/Pages/photos.aspx - I guess up to ~90.000 public domain pictures. I like to import them. Will that be ok? Any suggestions?

 Support good idea but check out with other batch uploads (especally Navy) that u don't upload all pics twice. Eventually use the VRIN or check if there is another way to find duplicates.--Sanandros (talk) 14:07, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I checking the images and ~60000 has a usable VRIN. But ~22000 do not have a valid VRIN. What about that images? Upload this too? And what about images there is not a author or description? (I didnt count yet)--Slick (talk) 15:16, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question: I downloadet all images and store it, the source url and other information on my disk. Before I start to upload the images the marines have redesign the webpage now. So now all source links will broken before I upload the images. It is not possible to find new links to the already downloadet images. (and it looks like most of the images are no more online in the new gallery). I only can add not exists links to the images I can upload. I am unsure to upload the images without a valid source. I removed all dups I can found before uploading (by VRIN). If there were an VRIN it is add to the description and the filename. (Because the sort order in the categorie, most files without VRIN comes first. So do not wonder.) Sometimes some information (date, creator, description) is missing (not given by the source / exif).
