Category talk:Weirs on the Vltava

I had several reasons to tag this move as controversial.

  • First category:Vltava is a river. 99 % of the strange names (don't espect commons administrators to know more than 1 % of the villages and 0,01 % of the rivers/streams worldwide) are pertaining to cities, towns and villages. So I would strongly suggest to use disambiguation for everything that is not a country/village/town/city. So it is normal that in a harmonisation process in "xxx by country" categories, people overlook the fact that in one specific country, rivers are used and not cities/provinces/bezerks/Voivodeships as in almost all "xxx by country" categories.
  • If you want to make a specific category:weirs by river, or even "weirs by river in the Czech Republic, feel free, but don't hijack the meaning of "weirs by country" as used in other "weirs/rivers/canals/xxx by country" categories to house an undocumented "Weirs by river in the Czech Republic" category.

If I understand your answer, you are begining a quit new discussion theme, which isn't related to rename request. The rename request consists in a question whether the river name should have a "the" definite article or shouldn't. I'm not sure in usage of indefinite and definite articles in English, but we can see in Category:Bridges in the Czech Republic by river, that the enforced standard is a river name WITH "the".

It cannot exist some reasonable doubt that weirs, ferries, dams, reservoirs and inland-water-transport should be categorized by river. In case of weirs it is the first criterion (within one country) evidently. A water transport, a water service, a watermanship etc. is operated by river, not by region. For the future we can plan for categories of weirs by region or categories of weirs by technical type etc., but nowadays the Czech weirs are categorized only by one criterion. It is unreasonable to extort a creationg of some new intergrade-category in a way of blockage of unrelated and resonable requests. --ŠJů (talk) 01:18, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
