Category talk:Virgin Mary by title

We should move this category to a new one named "Virgin Mary by title" or "Titles of Virgin Mary", similar to the wikipedia en:Category:Titles of Mary. For a location category, we already have "Virgin Mary by country‎".--Jordiferrer (talk) 08:48, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

  •  Comment We both agree to create "Virgin Mary by title", where we will have all titles of Mary.
  • Regarding "by location" can you give me a few examples of what would you have in there? Please note that one "title of mary" if often primarily used at one city or location, but we can often find that same title also used in other countries. Therefore I think we should not have titles inside the "by location" category.

• • • I think, "Virgin Mary by location" is not an ideal category name. But I think, we should rename it only and not merge with other titles, we can keep it as a specific subcategory of Mary titles. Other titles are very diverse – it would be very difficult to group them some way. I think, we can keep all various titles in "Virgin Mary by title".
    • There is also a specific problem with universal titles. For example, in Czech language, Mary has almost always the title "Panna" (Virgin) even when it is combined with any other title ("Panna Maria Lurdská" = Virgin Mary of Lourds, Matka Boží Panna Maria = Virgin Mary, the Mother of God). "Our Lady/Notre-Dame" has no usable equivalent in Czech. In some other languages, "Our Lady" is the universal title and the title "Virgin" is rare and specific. However, in church or artwork names, one universal title is often translated to another one ("Our Lady" from one language is translated as "Virgin Mary" or "Mother of God" or "Madonna" in another language). I have moved all Mary titles to "Virgin Mary by title" and all depictions to "Depictions of the Virgin Mary", following the same criteria used at wikipedia. if you find any missing ones, feel free to move them. Let's delete "Virgin Mary by type", which is not a clear name, plus it does not exist at wikipedia.--Jordiferrer (talk) 10:49, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
