What is this category for? Although all Tetsubin (teapots) are still presumably Tetsubin as well, what makes some of them Tetsubin (teapots) in addition to Tetsubin? Is this the relatively modern addition of internal tea infusers? Andy Dingley (talk) 09:07, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Modern teapot tetsubin are actually enamel coated and cannot be used to boil water but only to brew tea. And conversely, traditional tetsubin cannot be used to brew tea as the iron would colour it black. So they are two different things sharing the same name. - Olybrius (talk) 19:12, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that. I've been boiling water in my enamel ones for years.
So would "Tetsubin (enamelled)" make more sense? Or even the ghastly "Tetsubin (kyusu)" (they're not kyusu). Andy Dingley (talk) 19:19, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'd rather keep (teapot) as it describes their primary function and these tetsubin are not just enamelled they are also often painted unlike the traditional ones. As for the Japanese name, that might add to the confusion (or maybe just Tetsukyusu instead of Tetsubin (teapots)? Anyway if you feel like renaming, I don't actually mind. What matters most is distinguishing the two types. - Olybrius (talk) 20:43, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
