Name change proposition

[edit]

@202.159.132.27: It is my understanding that you believe that the physical railways that exist, and will exist, between Tallawong and Epping (Sydney Metro Northwest), Chatswood and Sydenham (Sydney Metro City & Southwest), and Barangaroo and Westmead (Sydney Metro West) are officially nameless and that the names that currently inhabit the categories for these railways are the names of the construction projects that built them. Even if this were true, typical common name guidelines across Wikimedia projects allow names commonly associated with the subject. Therefore, "Sydney Metro Northwest", "Sydney Metro City & Southwest", and "Sydney Metro West" are preferable names. A category with literally no name would be impossible, after all. However, we can work a compromise to create an extremely literal reading of the situation that would best suit your view, while still being within the realm of verifiable fact. We can use the affixes of the names for a generic name template often used on Commons; "x railway line, y". For example, the "Epping to Chatswood railway line" category currently uses this name format despite it being more commonly known as the Epping to Chatswood rail link. The City Circle is also heavily disambiguated as City Underground railway line, New South Wales. Here's the names I'm proposing for the new categories along these lines;

  • Northwest railway line, New South Wales
  • City & Southwest railway line, New South Wales
  • West railway line, New South Wales

How do you feel about this proposed compromise between the two of us? – PhilipTerryGraham (talk) 16:00, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
