Scorpaena cardinalis and Scorpaena jacksoniensis

[edit]

FishBase, Catalog of Fishes , Fishes of Australia all accept the results of Motomura et al 2011[1] study which showed that S. cardinalis was found in Northern New Zealand, the Kermadecs and some islands in the Tasman Sea but not on the coasts of mainland Australia where it is replaced by the closel;y related S. jacksoniensis. Any pictures of S. cardinalis from the coasts of Australia are most likely to be of S. jacksoniensis. Please bear that in mind when using images and ensure the image is of the correct species.
