Considering its a sword (almost shaped like a parrying dagger), I'm pretty sure it is used for thrusting.... AMWS (talk) 22:08, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    • Hachiwara are more sword shaped than either sai or jutte. Some hachiwara have sharpened points while some are blunt truncheons. I have never seen a sai with a sharp point and I have only seen one jutte with a point, everything I have read says that both sai and jutte were meant to be used as non-lethal weapons.
