The Rabat cities in Malta

[edit]

The Rabat cities as many cities in and geographical areas in Malta has their names from the time of the Arabs. As many other places in Sicily and Spain as the Rapida monastery in Spain (Famous in Christopher Colombus story). The {user Ies} has deleted the categories without any reasonable explanation, may be he does not know Arabic or he might not know the historical origin of the names of the Rabat city (Malta), Gozo Rabat and may be he do not know that the old capital of Malta Medina has took its name from Arabic al-Madina = the city. I feel this is a misunderstanding that has been clarified. The category should stay and the previous subcategorized files should be included. Anyone is welcomed to share his opinion openly at the discussion pages.--Ashashyou (talk) 15:56, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

User:Ies mentioned " a wild mix-up of city categories, over-categorized maps, over-categorized coats of arms and even one (!) image of the Citadella. As moreover you did't even link Category:Ribats of Malta anyhow to Category:Malta I can't see any sense in your categorizing. Please explain why you don't link to Malta, why you over-categoroze images and why you only categorize details (maps, coats of arms, one (!) image of the Citadella) of the cities instead of the entire cities. I don't understand it." as copied from the discussion

  1. I do not understand what exactly is your meaning "a wild mix-up" as i think most of categories in commons wikimedia is a complex mixture of photos but each category has a certain idea focus. The focus of the category of Ribats of Malta is collecting all photos and data related to Th Ribats that were built in Malta (same as the other Ribats of other countries which i have started before as Category:Ribats of Spain and Category:Ribats of Sicily and other Ribhats.
  2. You also mentioned "over-categorized maps, over-categorized coats of arms". I think you need to modify your concept of over-categorization as the maps and coat of Arms which you refer to did not contain more than one to two categories and adding the new category would make them having at maximum 3 categories which can not be described as over-categorized.
  3. You also have mentioned "one (!) image of the Citadella" you seem surprised to find this in the category of Ribats, Perhaps you do not know that Ribat was a defensive Arabic position. Mostof the Ribats (in Malta and perhaps other nearby countries) were former Forts or Fortresses during the Roman Era and may be even Phonecian Forts/Fortresses and mostly a Prehistoric fortification site. So the photo of a Citadelle included is because if you go to read on the web you will find that what you refer to as a citadella contains the ruins of Ribats at its lower levels. I did not include all citadels in Malta but i have included "a" Photo of a known Ribat as evidenced by persistence of its name until today and in history books.
  4. You also mentioned "moreover you did't even link Category:Ribats of Malta anyhow to Category:Malta I can't see any sense in your categorizing. Please explain why you don't link to Malta" during the start of the category of Ribats of Malta and the other Ribats categories i was busy starting the Ribats categories and collecting data related to Ribats and i did not have time to add the Category Malta to Ribats of Malta (Perhaps same thing occurred at the Ribats of other countries that i have started during the same day). I sense a tone in your voice suggesting bad intention, but i want to confirm my good intentions all through my work. Perhaps you should check my contribution list and all my other works which is a witness to my good intentions. I think you should have asked me directly on my talk page or on the discussion page of the category about your "misunderstanding" assuming good intentions on both sides.
  5. You also mentioned "why you over-categorize images and why you only categorize details (maps, coats of arms, one (!) image of the Citadella) of the cities instead of the entire cities. I don't understand it" my reply is that you need to reconsider your thoughts about over-categorization (see above). The reason that maps are included in the category because it related to the discription of old Ribats in Historical books. The reason that coat of Arms and the Citadel image is included is that it confirms the continuity of using the place as a defensive position after the Arabs (this is true mostly before the Arabs).
lastly I hoped you have started this discussion before nominating the list for speedy deletion as some people would think this is bias as the category was removed from all its positions in the photos and other categories before even its deletion. I hope the previous explanation and discussion would clear any misunderstanding.--Ashashyou (talk) 19:18, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
