@Blackcat: RAI - Radiotelevisione Italiana certainly isn't RAI's exact name (that would be RAI — Radiotelevisione italiana or rather RAI — Radiotelevisione italiana S.p.A.). However, on Wikimedia, not full organisation names, but the most common version of them are generally used. That wouldn't be Radiotelevisione Italiana either, but RAI (broadcaster). Objections to moving this there?    FDMS  4    21:58, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

FDMS4, RAI (broadcaster) would be fine. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 22:00, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Blackcat: I just noticed that RAI would be technically possible too …    FDMS  4    22:39, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@FDMS4: Technically yes but it would generate confusion with Rai... -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 22:40, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Mattes: What are you doing?    FDMS  4    21:34, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should not invent the wheel once more. Let us stick to the complete name. Or do we want Category:AM (automobile) instead of Category:Aston Martin, I don't. There are different names though
The group uses Radiotelevisione Italiana S.p.A., sometimes abbreviated as RAI, Rai and Rai > http://www.rai.it/dl/rai/text/ContentItem-9e40fc26-6bca-4fc7-a682-50d48a0f19e0.html

There is one entry in the whole internet that reads „Radiotelevisione italiana“ (that is Google content and refers to Bozen) BTW. We could forget about RAI in the cat name if you ask me, so just "Radiotelevisione Italiana". All content has been moved back to Category:RAI - Radiotelevisione Italiana by me. SD was not appropriate. Sincerely, --Mattes (talk) 05:28, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Mattes: Please read the discussion above. Your personal opinion doesn't override others'. All major Wikimedia projects use either the abbreviation or the written-out name, which is also what we generally do here on Commons. What matters here is whether RAI or Radiotelevisione Italiana is used more frequently by Commons' international visitors. I doubt many people outside of Italy have ever heard Radiotelevisione Italiana.    FDMS  4    13:29, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That is not how a move is performed, for one.. (history wipe) And for two, you have no consensus to do so. Pinging Blackcat to weigh in on the category name. COM:CFD ideally would have been used or discussion should have just continued and then moved once consensus was determined. ~riley (talk) 01:09, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In Italy is widely known as RAI with no other description attached (as well as BBC in the UK). Explanation. RAI is no longer the acronym of the broadcaster. It was founded as E.I.A.R. (Ente Italiano Audizioni Radiofoniche, loosely traslated as Italian board of radiophonic broadcasting). Later it was renamed as R.A.I. (Radio Audizioni Italia, or Italy's radiophonic broadcasting). When it went into television broadcasting also, it added to its name the appendix "Radiotelevisione italiana" and RAI was no longer an acronym. So the legal name is actually RAI - Radiotelevisione italiana, but it keeps RAI as one of its legal company names. Thus is fine to indicate it simply as RAI since nobody, in the media or common talk calls it "RAI - Radiotelevisione italiana". In order to avoid confusion with other "Rai"'s is also fine disambiguate it with (broadcaster). -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 14:29, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Mattes, Riley and FDMS4, I just restored the previous category because the move was made improperly losing the history of the source category. That's not the way how it must be done. Once you find a consensus to move do it but asking to an administrator to revert redirect keeping histories. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 14:37, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
