Created as a provisional category for sorting German photoarchive materials credited as "Author: Wittig" (a surname). Trying to determine full name(s) & how many "Wittig"s there are/were (taking pictures for DDR archives). Also, whether Wittig is being used as a studio name (for a group of photographers), or strictly as an individual author name.

"Wittig" as a surname & a word in general (in German) does not obviously relate to the subject of photography, it's being used as a proper name in the archive tags, but the quantity of material is rather large, & usage without the author's full name, or in combination with other author names, makes it seem almost generic?

The term "Zentralbild Wittig", and variations (including the addition of other elements), seems to appear on most of these photographs. Approximate translation: Wittig Picture Centre(?); it is not clear if the Zentralbild is an office named after Wittig, or if Wittig is a person working at the Zentralbild office.

One potential, known candidate: Willy-Kurt Wittig (1922- ), born in Zeulenroda, Thuringen, Germany. Professional photographer & cameraman in the DDR-era (including gov't work); active at least 1950's-1970's (or 1980's). Also known for artistic/erotic nude photography of female subjects. Believed still alive, he had a touring exhibition in Germany mid-2000's.

I think it is not Wittig Picture Center, but the surname of an individual photographer working for Zentralbild, which was a/the press agency in the GDR. See de:Allgemeiner Deutscher Nachrichtendienst. Zentralbild is a proper name for the agency meaning "central-image".--95.33.118.132 13:15, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
hello; & i agree. i was trying to be neutral/non-biased & thorough in writing up my conclusions. personally, i think it is very likely that most or all of the photos are by w-k wittig. Lx 121 (talk) 11:42, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
