There is a misunderstanding concerning the 1948-1950 Packards. Correct designation is "Eight Deluxe" and that indicates that these cars in fact were base model Eights with a little more trim. This is enhanced by their model designation: While there were 2201 Eights and 2211 Eight Deluxes, larger Super Eights wore numbers 2202, 2222, and 2232; and top models Custom Eight 2206, 2225, 2233, and 2213. First two digits give series; last gives status of the model. For 23rd series, Eight and Eight Deluxe even got the same model number: 2301. The lower status of the Deluxe Eight is further visible by the horizontal grille bars (senior models have an egg crate grille), and the shortes wheelbases. The Deluxe Eight of 1929 was the top-of-the line model with the largest wheelbase and engine, and only coachbuilt bodies. I therefore transferred 1948-1950 Eight Deluxes (#2211 and 2301) to Category:Packard Eight.

Hi @Chief tin cloud: Packard seems to use the English form of putting the adjective before the noun. (our subject is an Eight but it is a Deluxe Eight). So Packard's naming scheme is:
Eight
Deluxe Eight
Super Eight
Super Deluxe Eight
Custom Eight
and Packard also seem to consider Deluxe to be an (American) English word. If you look here at the sales brochure for their Deluxe Eight for 1948
  • 1st occurrence DE LUXE
  • 2nd occurrence Deluxe
  • 3rd occurrence DeLuxe
  • 4th occurrence DeLuxe
  • 5th occurrence Deluxe
  • 6th occurrence Deluxe
  • 7th occurrence DE LUXE ("Ask the man who owns one")
Out of the seven there are 2xDE LUXE, 3xDeluxe, 2x DeLuxe.
I think the current usage is deluxe (Deluxe). Would you mind if I changed DeLuxe to Deluxe?

Hi, Eddaido. Thank you for improving. I'm fine with that change. They should have found better way to separate upper and lower models than this, and one of the things I learned the hard way about Packard is, that the only consistence in designating their products is their own inconsistence...--Chief tin cloud (talk) 10:58, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
