  • Category:Oxy-acetylene welding is an important and recognisable form of welding. It belongs directly in Category:Welding. That is itself enough reasons: readers who have found "welding" will expect to have a direct path to "oxy-acetylene welding".
Removal of implicit supercategories is only a valid move if that supercategories is indeed implicit. category:Oxy-fuel welding and cutting is not completely a subset of category:welding - most of it is about cutting, not welding. Oxy-fuel includes oxy-propane, which can't be used for welding. As category:Oxy-fuel welding and cutting is not entirely a subset of welding, Category:oxy-acetylene welding is thus not implicitly a subcategory of category:welding, and so the membership should be added explicitly. This is a second reason to keep it.
It is a mistake to think that MediaWiki categorization is ontologically defining. It is not, it is not sophisticated enough for that. It is primarily navigational. Andy Dingley (talk) 17:07, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
