Good question. Director F. W. Murnau died more than 70 years ago. Who would own the copyright? A comment on the talk page of the en:Wikipedia article [1] casts doubt on the statement that it is still under copyright in country of origin. -- Infrogmation (talk) 22:37, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The movie is still copyrighted in Germany. See Commons:Deletion requests/File:NosferatuShadow.jpg. Posters and certain publicity photographs may not be, depending on where they were made and by whom. For a discussion in German see Wikipedia:Urheberrechtsfragen/Archiv/2009/03#Nosferatu-Bilder auf Commons.
