Sashes
[edit]Which order's w:en:sash is each wearing? My best guess based on Marina Amaral's colorised version (
- The Nine Kings. Portfolio. Marina Amaral. Retrieved on 19 January 2020.;
- (4 August 2018). "The artist who breathes technicolor life into historic photographs". The Spectator. Retrieved on 19 January 2020. "When it came to the photograph of nine kings taken at Windsor in May 1910 after the death of Edward VII, Amaral spent days interviewing royal and military historians to identify each medal, each fringe and button of the uniforms, the paintings on the walls, the carpet and the jewels."
) is that most are of the Order of the Garter, except:
- Ferdinand — Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius?
- Manuel II — Order of the Elephant?
- Albert I — Ordre de Léopold or Order of the Bath?

- Concerning Manuel II of Portugal, I doubt he (a young and recent king, 20-y.o. here and enthroned merely 2 years before) was a recipient of a Danish order and that, even if so, he’d chose it to wear in a third country. I’d guess he’d either be wearing a Portuguese order sash (maybe the sash of the Three Orders?), or maybe a British one. It could not have been the Bath sash, anyway, as he was created a knight of only the next year, already as a former king. -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 17:56, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
- I checked the w:en articles for all nine. Manuel got the Elephant on 1909-03-24, per w:en:Manuel II of Portugal#cite note-19 citing Riddere af Elefantordenen, 1559-2009 p.468. Jnestorius (talk) 18:38, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
- Possible justifications for wearing the Elephant in a third country: Edward VII also had the Elephant, and his widow was Danish. Jnestorius (talk) 18:41, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
