National, or just on Dam Square?

[edit]

Which is it? Andy Dingley (talk) 10:51, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Both: the National observance of Remembrance Day is always on Dam Square (and in the Nieuwe Kerk, also on Dam Square, but no photos of) and always with the king and queen. For Remembrance Day in the rest of the country see: Category:Remembrance of the Dead. It is confusing that both categories have the same Wikidata item since they are subcategory and parent categories in Commons. JopkeB (talk) 13:38, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So what does "National observance" mean? Is it right to think of this narrowly as "Observance for the Nation, by the Monarch" ? (and on Dam Square), or does it just mean "Observance across the nation" ? Andy Dingley (talk) 14:18, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I hope User:Fransvannes can answer this question. He made this category. JopkeB (talk) 15:06, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I chose the terminology used on www.4en5mei.nl/english/may-4, but to be honest I wasn't aware that the term "national observance" is used for the simultaneous local ceremonies as well. What I needed was a category just for the ceremony on Dam Square (of which I collected many images from all over Commons). I think that this category (and its daughter categories) should be renamed to Category:National observance of Remembrance Day on Dam Square. Fransvannes (talk) 20:49, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
