Term "Metropolitan"

[edit]

The term "Metropolitan" for German Intercity trains is misleading:

  • Metro(politaine) is the subway of Paris.
  • The Metropolitan Railway in England was a regional system in and around London.
  • The term "InterCity" for fast longdistance trains was invented by British Rail and copied by Deutsche Bundesbahn. Therefore, it is the generically English term for what IC = Intercity trains are now in Germany and some other countries.--Ulamm (talk) 09:47, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
