Rename proposal

As regards the proposal to move Category:Memorial stones in Skåne County to Category:Memorial stones in Skåne:

• the proposal states no reason in the template
• the rename appears to be controversial - identic proposal was removed previously
• there exist two different parent categories – Category:Skåne County and Category:Skåne. If both these terms are identic in their geographical scope, the should be merged at the top level first. As the description says, Category:Skåne County is used for the current unit and Category:Skåne for a historical unit. If we accept this differentiation, Category:Skåne County should be preferred for categorization of current topics.

Skåne County and the province of Skåne are not identical in their geographical scope. The only Swedish provinces with identical geographical scope to the corresponding counties are Blekinge and Gotland. Counties (län) are divided into municipalities (kommuner), but the historical provinces (landskap) are divided into hundreds (härader), so the subcategories of the county categories and the province categories should be very different from each other. When dealing with archaeological and historical monuments the old geographical system with provinces, hundreds, and parishes are far more useful for understanding the meaning of the monuments than the modern geographical system with counties and municipalities. Since the two category systems have different uses it seems best to let them be parallel to each other, so that has been the consensus of earlier discussions on the subject. / Achird (talk) 09:30, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
