Tabula Peutingeriana, Ptolemy maps‎, Catalan Atlas‎

[edit]

I think there is a misclassification in Mappae mundi of three charts. Tabula Peutingeriana is a copy of a very important chart of roman viae publicae dated to the end of roman empire. It is not realy a mappae mundi. Ptolemy maps‎ are redrawn in the XIVth from geolocation data (longitude, latitude) computed by Ptolemy. The Catalan Atlas as well should not be classified in mappae mundi. Catalan Atlas is strongly derived from portolans with drawn rhumb lines for marine navigation indicating the use of a compass. The category "Category:Portolan charts" seems approriate (XIIIth-XIVth to Mercator). Lastly, a category like Earth Globe to parallel Celestial Globe could be created containing items like this one https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Front_of_the_Ostrich_Egg_Globe.jpg.
