Some clues

Identifying real from henshin can be easy or hard depending on the level of service. Here is a non-exhaustive list of clues that someone is a henshin, not the real deal.

  • any other ethnicity than East Asian
  • untidy hair or wearing a wig
  • less than perfect (bright, new, clean) accessories such as kanzashi, tabi, hair ties, etc.
  • worn or untidy make-up
  • having time to wander about, pose with a paper umbrella in a park, and so on
  • ill-fitting tailoring on shoulders
  • incorrect seasonality
  • incorrectly matched rank/seniority signs
  • especially fully rouged lips with a profusion of flower kanzashi
  • incorrect kitsuke
  • incorrect make-up
  • especially wrong shade of rouge
  • incorrect mannerisms
