Tempanos Lake

[edit]

@LBM1948:

There are of course two different things in different places. But they have the same name. Usually in Wikipedia are a "Desambiguación" page to explain that. Commons hasn't, therefore I restablish both links again. --Juan Villalobos (talk) 10:10, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Before proceeding to a possible disambiguation, would have to find out if the name "Témpanos Lake" actually exists or it's an invention of the NASA site. The authority about this is the chilean government maps agency.
But, I insist: it's not a lake, so the name itself is wrong. --LBM1948 (talk) 10:35, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Whenever you decide what to do about these issues, please do not use titles like "Category:Tempanos lake". Either use "Lake" or "Lago" but not "lake". Look at the cats of all the other "lakes" in Aisén Region. Gracias. --E4024 (talk) 12:58, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The references call the object "Témpanos", also NASA. See es:Lago Témpanos.
To be clear: I don't care of names (Tempanos, Témpanos, etc) nor the object (lago, laguna, lake, Lake, etc). I am only interested in a "disambiguation" between both cases. --Juan Villalobos (talk) 08:57, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Commons care. --E4024 (talk) 13:07, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
What is your proposal?. --Juan Villalobos (talk) 15:49, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Making things carefully: Noticing the capitalization, language to use, taking care of special signs (é) etc. (A scan of my overall edits show I try to do these things in my contributions, as tedious as it sometimes may be.) I have no idea which lake or lagoon is where, I pass a lot of time here (Commons). --E4024 (talk) 16:01, 26 February 2019 (UTC
Perfect Juan: quoting sources is how things are understood: local sources attest the toponymy. The problem arises from the fact that in the photograph used in the Wikipedia article the situation of the lake is not indicated and shows a picture of about 65 km. high, while the ephemeral lake is no more than 4 km., located near de edge of the image and among many things that there are not lakes. It would be equivalent to using an image of a terrain five times larger than Manhattan to illustrate an article about Central Park.
Conclusion: there are two different bodies of water with very similar names in the same region and it is, therefore, appropriate to clarify the matter. And for this purpose a "see also" is not enough, because it could make users think that they are two different names of the same object. Although disambiguation is not as usual in Commons as in Wikipedia, I think it's convenient in this case. @Strakhov:
On the other hand, I'm going to make an effort to produce an image that clearly places Témpanos Lake within NASA's images, in case it seems convenient to replace the one on Wikipedia.
Thanks for all. --LBM1948 (talk) 09:29, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Great!. For a while we can write the hint "See also Category:Tempanos lake" in the page of the this category. --Juan Villalobos (talk) 11:59, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
