Table

[edit]

Thanks, Shakko, for the very helpful table. That makes things much clearer. This information should probably be added to the sub-categories as well, since it's not available on wikipedia in all cases. I can do that if you don't feel like it. Let me know.

I'm wondering if the sub-categories should be harmonized to some degree. Could Category:Theotokos Panachranta‎ be renamed to just Category:Panachranta‎ (to match the others, and the table), for instance? I myself moved Category:Orante to Category:Orans icons but it could go back if appropriate. Or perhaps a format like Category:Icons of the Virgin Mary (Panachranta) and Category:Icons of the Virgin Mary (Eleusa‎) could be used for clarity?

I'm also not sure it's appropriate to have this category in Category:Madonna and Child by type since Category:Agiosoritissa‎ specifically features Mary alone. It doesn't seem any more appropriate than putting Category:Icons of Virgin Mary in Category:Madonna and Child by type. I'm not sure how best to solve that issue though. - Themightyquill (talk) 12:35, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

hi, Themightyquill yes, Panachranta‎ - rename. No, I think "Icons of the Virgin Mary (Panachranta)" is too heavy for the eye and mind. In scientific literature it always goes with one word.
Maybe you know where to add such table in real articles?
I think the problem with categorization is unsolved one :) Agiosoritissa sometimes can be with Jesus[1][2]. Better leave it in both maybe?
how to translate this one [3]? what you think? it is Orthodox version of en:Sacred conversation, it:Sacra conversazione. "Theotokos with ?VERB? saints". In Russian language the saints are doing something like "stand, worship"... --Shakko (talk) 22:04, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved Category:Theotokos Panachranta to Category:Panachranta, but we'll have to add a category description since "Panachranta" means little to anyone but experts.
I don't understand Category:Agiosoritissa if, as you say, Category:Akhtyrskaya icons and Category:Pomozhenie rodam icons are sub-types. Your description of "Agiosoritissa" is "Mary without Child, at three-quarter view" but neither of those sub-types feature Mary without child, or Mary at three-quarter view." Either those aren't sub-types, or you need a new definition for Agiosoritissa. =)
As for Category:Bogomater_s_predstoyashimi_icons, I really have no idea, but shouldn't Category:Theotokos of Bogolyubovo be a sub-category, rather than a parent category? - Themightyquill (talk) 08:39, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
