Category talk:Hurtigruten ships

Lately this category has become a mishmash of ships that have little in common, because of confusion between the hurtigruten (or traditionally "hurtigruta") coastal line and the modern shipping company Hurtigruten AS. Here are ships that belong to Hurtigruten AS but that have never sailed in the coastal line between Bergen and Kirkenes, and traditional coastal line ships that went out of existence long before the modern shipping company Hurtigruten was founded.

To recap: Originally the hurtigruten coastal line consisted of ships from several shipping companies. In recent years there has been just one shipping company left in this traffic - when Troms Fylkes Dampskipsselskap and Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskap amalgamated into one company, it somewhat confusingly took the name Hurtigruten AS. So today Hurtigruten AS runs the hurtigruten coastal line, but it has not always been that way.

I'll probably clear up the confusion and re-establish correct categories for these ships at some point, unless someone else gets to it first. Blue Elf (talk) 15:58, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The confusion about the name is also shown in this news article (in Norwegian). Blue Elf (talk) 11:33, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
