Historical note

The bridge was rebuilt, 2010-2012. The prior bridge had no monument, a feature of the rebuilt bridge. Otherwise, the bridge looks more or less the same now, except that it is newer. The hidden features, however, changed a lot. A barge collision necessitated the rebuilding.

This bridge runs between Deer Island and the left bank (Point Shore Neighborhood). Chain Bridge, the complementary bridge running between Deer Island and Newburyport, was not altered. Chain Bridge is in Newburyport, Massachusetts. The Hines family home also is nearby on the Newburyport side of the river. Derek could be seen jogging in and was familiar with either place.
