Description

@Băng Tỏa: , just curious, but was C's (Musée Annam's) description factually wrong? --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:44, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Often accompanied by a piano or, more traditionally, the đàn bầu" is not factually sufficient - it can be accompanied by various instruments. The latter half of the description is not factually wrong, it's just too much for a Commons category description. We have a dedicated article on Vietnamese Wikipedia in case anyone wants to read more about nhạc vàng. Băng Tỏa (talk) 20:55, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Băng Tỏa: , I am familiar with the Vietnamese-language article, but there is no English-language Wikipedia or Simple English-language Wikipedia article, you description you cut "There is some controversy revolving around the origin of the term. One theory suggests that the term first appeared in South Vietnam in 1960; the term allowed for radio broadcasters to classify songs that were approved by the Republic of Vietnam for release and distribution. In the North, it is believed that the term was borrowed from a popular 1930s Chinese genre by the same name, which spread to North Vietnam as Mao Zedong gained power in office. Similarly, this genre is perceived differently in North and South Vietnam. In the former, golden music is seen as pessimistic, catering to lowly desires of flesh. However, the South of Vietnam views the music as an expression of love for the motherland. Moreover, the South praised golden music for depicting the private feelings of soldiers and couples despite the heavy burden of war." at this edit simply removed information that wasn't available in any Anglophone Wikipedia. This wouldn't be a bad thing if it was actually inaccurate, but this is all the Anglophone information (as of writing this). Information should preferably be moved and not removed, especially for something as ambiguous as this. Though I am not sure about the title as "vàng" can mean both "Yellow" and "Gold" in English, but Wikimedia Commons doesn't have a COMMONNAME policy and perhaps this page should adopt the Viet title, but that's a different discussion altogether. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 21:24, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then putting a link to Vietnam section from the enwiki's article of Yellow music would be a great option, so that Commons readers can have access to english information as well. I've seen that kind of interwiki linking many times, I just don't know how to do it on wikidata. Regarding the title of this category, I agree that it should be changed into "Nhạc vàng".
