Category:Gastronomy in wikipedia Languages

  • Aragonés * Asturianu * বাংলা * Català * Česky * Deutsch * Ελληνικά * Esperanto * Español * Euskara * Français * Magyar * Bahasa Indonesia * Íslenska * Italiano * 日本語 * Lëtzebuergesch * Nederlands * Occitan * Português * Română * Slovenčina * Svenska * Türkçe

Some clarifications. First {{delete}}, {{move}} and {{merge}} templates serve to start the discussion. They are only to be removed when there is a conclusion on the debate. Because you are probably not aware of that, I had to protect the page.

As you can see in for example User_talk:Foroa/archive_2008#Category:Cuisine_by_country_changes and on many other places, there have been several attempts to merge the category:cuisine by country and category:food by country categories, precisely because it is not easy to keep them separate, so the differences are already too subtle for many Commons contributors.

If you read carefully the definitions on food, en:cuisine and en:Gastronomy (and on the connected wikipedia's), you will notice that cuisine on commons is not concerning the kitchen itself (otherwise the category would be called kitchens), but about the daily, cultural and "arty" aspects of preparing food, in other words, about gastronomy. So, I am convinced that gastronomy is a subset of cuisine, but the differences are so subtle that nobody will manage to keep them apart. Of course, if you can commplement the food and cuisine definitions with a gastronomy definition that clearly stands out, then the merge should not be needed. --Foroa (talk) 09:16, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is true that gastronomy exists in more languages than cuisine, but cuisine is a slightly wider and popular definition in which one can easily slip al activities around the cuisine, such as waiters, food tools, dishes (popular dishes are not necessarily gastronomy). --Foroa (talk) 09:25, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Re:
  • Sk - Food (:sk:potravina) and Food (:sk:jedlo) definition is different though related. So it is with Gastronomy. Cooking, Cuisine, from sk, cs, pl, hu, - example :cs:Gastronomie--> Kategorie:Příprava jídla / Vaření (Category:Cooking techniques / cooking), Gastronomie--> Kategorie:Kuchyně podle zemí (en:Category:Cuisine by nationality, fr:Catégorie:Gastronomie par pays), Gastronomie--> Kategorie:Potraviny (foods), Gastronomie--> Kategorie:Jídlo (foods) and not vice versa. There are so subtle differences. This was one of the reasons established categories. I did not base these categories - cs (Kategorie:Gastronomie - history). For sk yes - category, but I did not base page - (Gastronómia - history). But there are 25 wikipedia Languages Category:Gastronomy and not all languages are the differences so subtle as the en. Therefore, I also returned - merged. --Tom778 (talk) 10:18, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why interference Category:Gastronomy?

[edit]

Why is repealed Category:Gastronomy? Cuisine is similar but slightly different meaning - see also above discussion.

in this area are based on the book. (for example: de: Hans Tapper - Der schön gedeckte tische, ISBN 3806842469 [4], cs: google - stolování)

The English word gastronomy has a very different meaning from, e.g., the German Gastronomie (which means that the interwikilinks from en: to de: and vice versa are wrong and misleading). Gastronomie in German (and possibly many other languages) does not mean cultural discussion of food but means "anything to do with food and drinks served commercially". More like "catering" or "restaurant and tavern business". I guess there is no really good translation to English. To merge the categories would be totaly wrong, thoug. Gastronomie is not = gastronomy and hence is not = cuisine, not at all. If you must, rename the gastronomy category, but please do not simply merge. --05:00, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
