Category talk:Fort Vancouver National Historic Site
Organizing images.
[edit]Category:Fort Vancouver National Historic Site had nearly 400 images in it. It was easy to sort them into sub-categories based on buildings as most have specific names and associated history. Then it became obvious that there are several things going on here. From a frontier history background, I assumed it was the historic Hudson's Bay Company facility. Turns out there are later historic periods with as much if not more property and significance.
- Category:Old Fort Vancouver, which is the Hudson's Bay Company period,
- Category:Vancouver Barracks, which is the American occupation period until the mid-1900's,
- Category:McLoughlin House, the director of the HBC during the immigration of the Oregon Trail pioneers,
- Category:Pearson Air Museum, and
- The administrative and museum (Category:Visitor Center & Book Store, Fort Vancouver NHS) area.
I created the Old Fort Vancouver to eliminate the confusion over it's sub-categories being displayed in the primary category and the other three areas not included. It also gave me a way to segregate the general images of the reconstructed old fort out of the overall category.
Note: the term Vancouver Barracks is used extensively in the park web sites and literature. I assume the park chose the name since both the reconstruction of the HBC fort and the American military fort are both 'Fort Vancouver'. Chris Light (talk) 22:55, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
