Ireland or Republic of Ireland?

[edit]

Hello,

There was an attempt to rename the category from Exposition pavilions of Ireland to Exposition pavilions of the Republic of Ireland. I believe the name should be just Ireland for the following reasons:

  • There were Irish pavilions at world fairs or Expos before the Partition (such as the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition).
  • There were also Irish pavilions at a time when Ireland was not a Republic (such as the 1933 Century of Progress) so Republic of Ireland is anachronistic.
  • These pavilions (seen throughout history) tend to present Irish culture as a whole. Note for instance as, even in recent times, they are always called after Ireland.

For these reasons I believe it would not be an improvement either to restrict the scope of this category to the Republican era, or name it after the "Republic of Ireland" seen the extent of its scope. Place Clichy 09:17, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
