Why the Enviros?

[edit]

Can anyone tell me why there are a number of pictures of Alexander Dennis Enviro400s in this category? The manufacturer clearly doesn't want the new product to be associated with the old, mentioned widely in Buses magazine and other publications (also when Arriva implied they were this was picked up on.) Why should we go against this? The "Enviro400 chassis" is available for other body builders to body, so if it's the same things then why isn't it just called the Dennis Trident? I suggest recategorising the problem files. Any other ideas? Arriva436talk 11:50, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know, some of the Enviro400s' (such as the prototype for Travel West Midlands and the ex-demonstrator now owned by Transdev Yellow Buses) chassis plates/vehicle identification plates show their vehicle type as "TRIDENT 2", which is as same as the type name shown on the plates of the older 2-axle Tridents. (But I don't know what is the vehicle type shown on the plates of the Enviro400s built in 2008, such as Stagecoach's 19321 onwards.)
If you still think this is a problem, you may consider creating new category with the name "Category:Dennis Enviro400" or "Category:Dennis Trident 2 (Enviro400)" and then recategorise those images. :)
Off topic: As the articles of ADL's Enviro-range buses in English Wikipedia had been renamed, do you think there is a need to rename/replace Category:Dennis Enviro 500 as well? 218.102.174.215 15:39, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd have thought that they'd have moved on from prototypes by now? I might do what you have suggested and make a new category at some point.
Being one of the people that changed all the links on Wikipedia after the name changes, I had discussed this a bit on Wikipedia. Image names etc don't really need to be changed as the aren't prominent (for example "TWM Enviro 400.jpg" could stay the same). But, and I don't know how you do it, but if you can rename page names here it would be good. (For example "Category:Dennis Enviro 500" to Category:Alexander Dennis Enviro500" - I think this is the only example of a space on the commons though??) If "Category:Alexander Dennis Enviro500" is created as replacement, some people may put images of Volvo B9TL/Enviro500 into that category, then the category may no longer be suitable to be placed under "Category:Dennis buses".
As I know, for the other Enviro-range buses (except Enviro200), the vehicle types shown on the vehicle identification plates are as follows:
  • Enviro200 Dart: DART 4
  • Enviro300: ENVIRO 300 (with space between "ENVIRO" and "300")
  • Enviro500: TRIDENT E500 (different from 3-axle Trident's TRIDENT/TRIDENT 3)

← Hi! I've made some of the changes today. I have made Category:Alexander Dennis Enviro400 to separate the Enviros from the Tridents. For the moment, it is a sub-cat of "Dennis Trident 2", although this may have to be changed if more E400s are made on other chassis. It is also in Category:Dennis Enviro.

I have made some other changes too. I have separated Category:Dennis Enviro into:

I have chosen to use the "Alexander Dennis" name in the category as it is actually the name of the product, surely we should reflect this? It does of course leave Category:Dennis Enviro 500 in a different style, but there's not much I can do about it. You are worried that if it has a name change "the category may no longer be suitable to be placed under Category:Dennis buses". Surely they are still part Dennis, so it wouldn't matter. For example, Category:Volvo buses has images in it with Volvo chassis and different body, so why can't Dennis buses have Dennis body and different chassis. After all, both cats are in Category:Buses by brand, and it doesn't say anything about it being chassis only, and if the cat is called "Buses by brand", why should it?.

I'll let you do what you need to to my edits, you seem to have a lot more knowledge of the "buses by brand" cat than I do, maybe you want to make a new category, "Alexander Dennis" buses? Arriva436talk/contribs 18:25, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe we can create categories for the Alexander Dennis-bodied buses with other chassis, such as "Category:Alexander Dennis Enviro500 (body)" if needed (But where should these categories be placed under, or creating another new category "Category:Alexander/TransBus/Alexander Dennis-bodied buses" for them?), then the categories without the word "(body)" can continue to be sub-categories of Category:Dennis Enviro. 218.103.236.92 03:25, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's probably the best idea if more Enviros are produced with different chassis. For now though, I'd leave it be. Arriva436talk/contribs 12:42, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
