Yellow umbrellas

[edit]

@Garam: sorry, I dont think this should be a sub-cat of Category:Yellow umbrellas in Hong Kong. That was another movement.--Roy17 (talk) 17:07, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think, this category and sub-categories are include Yellow umbrellas and umbrellas movement in Hong Kong. Of course, all is not "yellow" umbrellas. But many people still uses yellow umbrellas with blacks. Thanks. --Garam talk 16:24, 12 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Garam: imho the appropriate way to categorise would be putting only those files showing yellow umbrellas rather than the whole category under that. Last time yellow umbrellas was a main theme but this time it is not.--Roy17 (talk) 19:20, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Roy17: Yes. The symbol of early protests is umbrella with yellow. But, as time passed on, it has changed into umbrella with black. Nevertheless, many people still believes, these protests are an extension of (Yellow) Umbrella Movement in my opinion. Thanks. --Garam talk 03:43, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Garam: if your perspective were correct, then this category would be a subcat of the 2014 umbrella movement. Apparently this is not, and yellow umbrella is not a main element.--Roy17 (talk) 21:04, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cat names for demonstrations held outside HK

[edit]

I suggest renaming those cats in the format of Demonstrations in support of 2019 Hong Kong protests in <place name>, similar to the tree Category:Demonstrations and protests in support of countries. @Bald white guy and KOKUYO: what do you think?--Roy17 (talk) 19:20, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Roy17: I'm fine so long as its clear and there's obvious linkage. However I believe there should be reference to "in support of 2019 Hong Kong protests" because there have been other separate protest movements in Hong Kong in other years. Plus it needs to differentiate between something in support of the HK government, and something in support of the protest movement within HK. --Bald white guy (talk) 20:38, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Bald white guy: I share your concern in that pro HK govt and anti govt protests should be distinguished. I think Demonstrations in support of 2019 Hong Kong protests is appropriate for the anti govt ones, and pro govt ones can be Demonstrations in support of China or Demonstrations in support of Hong Kong govt followed by in place name in YYYY, depending on the actual event itself.--Roy17 (talk) 21:04, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Roy17: Thanks - yes, that sounds like a sensible approach to me. It's clear. --Bald white guy (talk) 07:34, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
