Colleges in India

[edit]

Hi, Roland. You might not have realized it, but we usually don't have separate categories for universities and colleges within a geographical area. I think it would be more helpful to keep them together. If you look at the list of all categories whose names start with "Colleges in", you can see that there are very few, especially when you realize that some of them are redirects to categories starting with "Universities and colleges in". Is there a particular reason you think these should be separate for India? --Auntof6 (talk) 19:31, 18 May 2016 (UTC) [quotation end][reply]

Hi Auntof6, thank you for your input on my talk page, and as the topic is not of personal but of general interest, but worth to be discussed at the related category to find a Wikimedia-wide consens by other interested Wikimedians:
  1. I did realize that the Indian (and not exclusively those) categories are overwhelming – p.e. just Category:Colleges in Kerala as of 18 May 2016 now comprises of 40 related sub-categories.
  2. And, three other Indian state-subcategories at Wikimedia haven been started long time before, Category:Colleges in Assam even in 2012, did you realize?
  3. ...as I just realized, Category:Colleges in Delhi is much older, and was started even in 2009!
  4. But first, original precedent to start is the related category tree at EN-WP en:Category:Colleges in India which comprises as of 18 May 2016 about more than 200 sub-categories in all...
  5. ...and there are also 23 national sub-categories, see en:Category:Colleges by county.
In all, imho valuable arguments and a particular reason to start the same structure at Wikimedia Commons, and not separate for India – interested Wikimedians may feel motivated to start in 'their personally own' points of interest... and asked herewith to do so ;-)
